WHats New in the ANSI Z359 Fall Protection Code – Part 2
August 17, 2011
What’s new in the ANSI Z359 Fall Protection Code? There are many new standards. As of July 2011, there are about 8 new standards released in the Z359 Fall Protection Code. Let’s review a few of these:
Z359.0 is the “Definitions” code, which defines the common terms used within the fall protection industry and fall protection code. It is available for free on www.asse.org. This is a great resource for anyone who uses fall protection and is an indispensable reference book for anyone new to the field who wants to quickly bring themselves up to speed on the terminology of fall protection.
Z359.2 is the fall protection “user” code called “Minimum Requirements for a Comprehensive Managed Fall Protection Program”. Because this is a “user” code and not an equipment code, it is the most relevant Code for anyone who uses fall protection in their organization.
The Z359.2 code clearly defines the proper steps to implement a fall protection program in any organization. From user training to program administration, this code shows users how to set up a first class fall protection program to keep workers protected best from injuries during falls from height.
Of all the ANSI Z359 series of fall protection codes, Z359.2 is the most important to safety professionals who need to set up a fall protection program within their organization. If you follow the requirements within this code, you will have no problem meeting or exceeding the current OSHA fall protection requirements for general industry or construction.
In part 3 we will review some of the more extraordinary standards in the Z359 Fall Protection Code.
Stay tuned!
